The CARES Act Emergency Assistance Grant application is now available for Fall semester.
NOTE – The CARES Act funding allocation of 1,946,067 has been depleted. Your application for funding will be retained in case funds becomes available in the future. Priority will be ranked based on date and time the application was submitted along with other eligibility requirements (registration, FAFSA completion, etc.).
The COVID-19 pandemic has posed many challenges for our students and has resulted in additional financial hardship for some. The College has funding made available as a result of the federal government’s Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to help Jackson College students who require assistance with expenses that impact their ability to continue their studies at the college.
Examples of the types of expenses that could be funded through this emergency funding are child care, health care, mental health, food, textbooks/school supplies, utilities, housing, transportation and technology. The emergency grants provided through this process will not impact any other financial aid you may be receiving.
Eligible students may apply one time per semester, for both Spring 2020 and Fall 2020 (Fall application opens 8/10/2020). Students must be enrolled in a financial aid eligible course at Jackson College, in the current semester, and be eligible for financial aid to apply. Eligibility for financial aid is determined by the results of a student filing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as well as demonstrating satisfactory academic progress. If you have not completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the application is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Department of Education regulations prohibit High school students (dual enrolled & early middle college), international students, DACA students and undocumented students from participating in this grant. Corrections Education Program (CEP) students would not typically have expenses eligible for the grant. However, if a CEP Student is released as a result of the coronavirus, remains enrolled as a student in the program under the Second Chance Pell experiment, and has eligible expenses, he or she may be eligible.

As of 9.30.20 – Important information about these funds
- The College has signed and returned the CARES Act Funding Certification and Agreement which is required before we can access the funds. The College’s allocation to distribute to students is $1,946,067, which represents 50 percent of the stimulus allocation of $3,892,134.
- The institutional portion of the CARES Act Funding is $1,946,067 and is being used to provide scholarships directly to students to reduce the cost of online courses. Select link below to view the required quarterly Institutional Portion report:
- It is estimated that during the Fall 2020 term 2,458 students at Jackson College are eligible to participate in Title IV programs and therefore are eligible to receive an emergency financial aid grant.
- As of 9/30/2020 the college has disbursed $1,900,500 in emergency funds to 1,230 students.
- The College has also been awarded $188,958 under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) – Strengthening Institutions Program which will be used towards increased costs of operating the institution resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
